Highly Electronic Conductive Silver Nanowires

Since silver is the chemical element with the highest electrical conductivity, it is presently used in conducting pastes and varnish for electronics industry. The silver content usually has to be very high (65-80 %) in order to obtain substrates with good conductivity. Primarily, the necessary content is dependent on the form of the conducting particle. Silver nanoparticles are generally spherical, which is the most unfavorable form to achieve electric conductivity, since the embedded particles in the substrate have to be in contact with each other.

In contrast to that, silver nanowires disclose the opportunity to gain high conductivity of substrates with a low silver content (<8 %), since the probability of particle contacts is significantly increased at such a geometry. In the ideal case these silver nanowires posses diameters in the range of few nanometers and lengths of some micrometers.
